Mercerisation is a cellulose fiber treatment that improves dyeing capabilities in addition to reducing shrinking and imparting a lustrous appearance to the fabric.

While other design methods utilize whole cloth dyeing/printing, or employ weaving in such a way that designs are created structurally in the weave, Ikat (pronounced E-cot) is a method of resist dyeing that is accomplished by binding the warp and the weft threads of a woven prior to weaving. Ikat fabrics will have slight motif variations with feathery edges as the threads will move and shift during the weaving process. These incredible fabrics are full of character worth treasuring!

This fabric is ideal for shirts, dresses, bag and jacket linings, and lightweight home accessory projects like tablecloths or throw pillow covers.

Please note that many fabrics are starched before they are put on a bolt to make the wrapping easier and tidier. Fabric should be expected to soften and develop more drape after washing.
